The establishment of a science requires a solid foundation based on the historical roots of the discipline. Indeed, there is a vast literature on creative thinking, belonging to many disciplines. As a minimum, the following need to be considered:
- History of Science and Art
- Engineering Design
- Artificial Intelligence
- Complex systems
- Creativity tools and methods
- Patent databases
A corner stone for MIC is to study and develop the thinking methods and approaches to innovation used by great inventors, such as Guglielmo Marconi.
For each discipline, we must extract the principles underpinning the specific aspects of creative thinking as seen through the particular point of view. The collection of all principles gives the wanted foundations.
Establish Creative Thinking as a Science at the crossroad between Neuroscience, Philosophy, Psychology of Science, Engineering Design, Artificial Intelligence, Complex Systems, Information Theory, Management. Work to create an “inventor’s ethic”, based on the underlying goal of creating for the benefit of humanity. Set up courses, workshops, and seminars to teach creative thinking methods, innovation, and exploitation of creative ideas.
Start with seminars and workshops with internal audience, then expand to external audience. Set up a Master class in Creative Thinking Applications, in cooperation with Alma Graduate School of the University of Bologna. Find sponsors.
Exploration and problem solving
Use creative thinking methods within MIC to generate new ideas and solve problems in several areas, including but not limited to: all fields of engineering, and particularly for Information and Communication Technology; Management and Economics; services to citizens, including those provided by public administrations.
Hire a group of researchers who will be trained specifically with creative thinking skills, and that will work with goals of generation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, as well as provision of creative thinking as a service (CTaaS) to external entities.
Exploitation and innovation
Build up the reputation of the Marconi Institute for Creativity within the Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi as a world-class center for innovation and problem solving. Protect and exploit intellectual property through patent filings, generation of spin-off companies, consultancy to companies and public administrations.
Raise awareness of the scientific community and of the public at large of MIC’S activity. Raise funding to enable the protection of intellectual property. Collect the interest of business angels to support spin-off initiatives. Set up European Projects on the development of creative thinking methods. Provide consultancy to firms and companies for innovation, problem solving, re-organization processes.
