TRIZ as seen through the DIMAI creative thinking modell



The aim of this paper is to show that TRIZ is not an isolated theory, but a set of tools that can be interpreted in the light of general theoretical models for creativity. In fact, the numerous tools and strategies that TRIZ formulates can be seen as specific instances of the DIMAI model for the creative thinking process, which takes into account environmental, personality, and cognitive factors and postulates five principal states: Drive, Information, Movement, Assessment and Implementation. Letting “strategy” be defined as a sequence of activation of states, components or sub-processes that includes implementation as a final step, we show how TRIZ offers a systematic organization of strategies for the disciplined and aware use of the complex interactions between the cognitive, individual and emotional elements hypothesized into the DIMAI model. The interpretation of TRIZ through the DIMAI model is not only interesting from a theoretical point of view, but it adds an awareness layer which can help both the scientist and the practitioner in dealing systematically and homogeneously with the multiple variables and elements involved in the creative and innovative act, thus enhancing the overall effectiveness.

Measuring Creativity through a Multi-sided Measurement Approach within Scientific and Artistic Domains – Abstract



This paper presents the structure and the composition of a newly developed multi-sided test battery for the measurement of creativity within scientific and artistic domains. By evolving and integrating some of the existing procedures for evaluating creativity, this test battery promises to become a full-rounded and comprehensive assessment of creative abilities, encompassing both domain-general and domain-specific components. More specifically, the test battery is designed for the measurement of the two main stages of the creative thinking process: ideation and assessment. The test battery also includes two measures of creative achievement, testing for Pro-C or Big-C Creativity. Both are tuned to represent measures of achievement in the artistic, scientific and everyday creativity domains. Moreover, since creative thinking is not an isolated phenomenon in human behavior, the battery includes the measurement of two constructs, intelligence and personality, both of which are highly relevant for creativity.

The workshop “Creatività strutturata e impresa: da lusso a necessità will take place at Bologna Business School (Villa Guastavillani, Via degli Scalini 18 – Bologna) on October 7, 17.30. 


The workshop will discuss how creativity is becoming a strategic necessity and an essential company asset for the production of new value through the generation of innovative ideas, products, and services. Starting from the critical analysis of some preconceptions related to creativity, the workshop will concentrate on how and through which tools creative thinking can be included, developed and applied within the enterprise context. The new Executive Program in Creativity and Innovation promoted by BBS in collaboration with MIC will also be presented.

Creativity and Leadership: Plenary session of 2015 AHRMIO Annual Conference



The 2015 AHRMIO (Association for Human Resources Management in International Organizations) Annual Conference “Re-imagining Leadership in International organizations” will be hosted by the Bologna Business School from September 28 to September 30, 2015. Bologna Design Week 2015


From Wednesday, September 30 to Saturday, October 3 2015, with the support of EXPO Milano 2015, the Municipality of Bologna, Emilia Romagna, and CERSAIE, Bologna will host the first edition of the Bologna Design Week. Bologna Design Week is a cultural event that was born and developed in order to map the widespread design creativity initiatives and actors in the area of Bologna through a collaborative approach between institutions, companies, designers, university, research institutions, associations, individuals.



Several events are organized in collaboration with the University of Bologna, among which “REALMENTE: il progetto fra aula e realtà presso Urban Center” opening October 1 from 17.30 – Urban Center: the outcomes of the 2014/2015 workshops attended by the students of the degree in Industrial Product Design of UniBo will be presented. For more information about the event click here

Multidisciplinary Contributions to the Science of Creative Thinking

MIC is pleased to announce the publication of the book: Multidisciplinary Contributions to the Science of Creative thinking


This book, edited by Giovanni Emanule Corazza and Sergio Agnoli and published by Springer, offers a multidisciplinary and multi-domain approach to the most recent research results in the field of creative thinking and creativity, authored by renowned international experts. By presenting contributions from different scientific and artistic domains, the book offers a comprehensive description of the state of the art on creativity research.

Specifically, the chapters are organized into four parts:

  • Theoretical Aspects of Creativity;
  • Social Aspects of Creativity;
  • Creativity in Design and Engineering;
  • Creativity in Art and Science.


In this way, the book becomes a necessary platform for generative dialogue between disciplines that are typically divided by separating walls.

A scientific article by MIC on Creativity Research Journal: ” An eye-tracking analysis of irrelevance processing as moderator of Openness and creative performance”

The MIC Institute article that demonstrates the psychological mechanism relating the Openness personality trait and the creative performance is now pubblished online on Creativity Research Journal.

Even if beeing open-minded was already demonstrated to be related to creativity, no study even demonstrated the psychological mechanism relating this personality trait and creativity: in this paper MIC demonstrates that a higher attention to irrelevant information mediates the association between Openness and creative performance.

MIC @ZoneModa Summer School – Fashion and Creativity

The Department of Life Quality Studies (QuVi), University of Bologna organizes the second edition of the ZoneModa Summer School in High Education, which is fully dedicated to the relationship between Fashion and Creativity (Rimini, Spazio ZoneModa – June 15 – 19, 2015). Along with the special lessons of fashion academics, specialists of fashion archiving and professional designers, the program includes MIC experts with a seminar about Creative Thinking.

On June 16 Prof. Giovanni Emanuele Corazza held a 3-hour lesson focused on Creative thinking principles, tools, and applications, outlining the theoretical approaches to the study of creativity to present then the DIMAI model applied to Fashion Design, with examples, exercises, and final generation of ideas by the students.

Giardino delle Imprese: 2015 Edition

June 29th – July 10th, Giardini Margherita Bologna 


From June 29th to July 10th the 2015 Edition of the Summer School “Giardino delle Imprese” will be held at the Giardini Margherita in Bologna. 60 high-school students will participate in this school. Fondazione Gugliemo Golinelli organizes Giardino delle Imprese to allow the generation of new ideas to be developed within specif business accelerators.

The Marconi Institute for Creativity, scientific collaborator of the school, will participate through a lesson held by Prof. Giovanni Emanuele Corazza.

YPlan App: an example on how to build a succesful start-up

The following article is the winner of a selection between articles produced by the students of the Creativity and Innovation course of the spring semester of the Academic Year 2014-2015 by Prof. Giovanni Emanuele Corazza, within the Graduate Course in Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Bologna.

During these Creativity and Innovation classes, students learned about the DIMAI model for creative thinking, to understand the creative process and clarify the difference between idea generation and innovation, as well as approaches to face hurdles and strategies for success. This semester in particular the course  focused on the ICT business world: six students teams presented their own project on the ideation and consequent possible implementation of a new start-up. In preparation to this task, students produced articles about a succesfull start-up to be considered as an inspiration for their work.

Nowadays, the world is ruled by social networks, and even there is a lot of concepts already implemented in that sector, there’s always new ideas coming each year, sometimes they are successful and sometimes they are not.

I think that YPlan is a really good example for a successful startup company, because they are an example in international expansion and innovation.
